About Papa Bay Shoreline Access on Kona & West Island, Hawaii
Papa Bay is a hidden sandless shoreline with access from the Miloli’i community. There are no facilities, but if you look around you’ll find tidepools and you might spot historical sites from a former settlement on the bay.
There are two accesses to this beach. One is next to the lot at 88-1598 Ewalu Avenue and the other is next to 88-223 Kai Avenue (both are a Captain Cook address even though the roads are in Miloli’i). The former access has parking space for a few cars. From there it’s about a 200 yard walk downhill to the shoreline.
When you get to the shore, stay to the right (north) and you’ll go by a rock wall that’s over a mile in length from the sea straight up the hill towards the highway. More rock walls are near the beach in this area. Behind the beach there are more walls and foundations if you search around. Do not disturb rock piles or walls of any kind. These are historical sites that are protected by law.
This Papa Bay shoreline access is for walking in only and day-use only. There is no camping and fires are not allowed. Signage at the entrance says that this is a private park and the Milolii Beach Club Association reserves the right to refuse access. If we all use this access respectfully it will remain open for everyone.
Note that there is no public access to Papa Bay from Papa Bay Drive or from the Papa Bay Estates development.
