About Oneo Bay on Kona & West Island, Hawaii
Oneo Bay has a narrow shoreline along Alii Drive on the Kailua-Kona waterfront between Kona Oceanfront Gallery and Huggos Restaurant. The bay only has one small sandy spot with access to the water and it’s barely noticeable. Downtown locals are often resting in this spot so it might already be occupied. Shade trees make it a little more inviting, but it’s not a great sunbathing or hangout beach.
If the water is calm enough you could get into the water here with or without snorkel gear, but we recommend Dig Me Beach or Niumalu Beach on Kailua Bay over this spot. Honl’s Beach is also close-by to the south and has more sand. Investigating the tidepools is a better reason to stop at Oneo Bay. If you look around you’ll find saltwater catching “bowls” carved into the lava rocks next to the tidepools.
Signs behind the beach indicate that the land around it is private so find another place to rest your bones. The seawall behind Kona Inn Shopping Village is recommended for sitting somewhere along the shore.
For access to Oneo Bay there is no street parking along Alii Drive in this vicinity so it would be better to park near the Kona Farmers Market on Hualalai Road or at the nearby shopping centers and go to the beach after doing some shopping. Alii Sunset Plaza and Coconut Grove Marketplace shopping malls are directly across the street from Oneo Bay. Beach hours for Oneo Bay are 6am to 9pm.
