About Kealoha Beach Park on Hilo & East Island, Hawaii
Kealoha Beach Park in Hilo is a popular local gathering spot especially in the evenings. If you are not a local, you might feel out of place here at times. There are countless spots for sitting on rock walls and smooth pahoehoe lava all along the park’s shore. A large grassy area with picnic tables and shade is provided too.
The swimming area on the west end of the park is large and protected from waves. It has a stairway leading down and into the water making it easier for kids and families to take a dip. Sea turtles are frequently spotted at Kealoha – give them space if you see them.
The park has a one-way road, Keaukaha Road, passing through it with gates that get closed at the end of the day. Parking spaces are all along this east to west road between the gates. This road turns off Kalanianaole Street a couple miles east of the Hilo waterfront.
Across Kalanianaole Street you’ll spot The Seaside Restaurant and Aqua Farm on Lokowaka Pond. They serve delicious dinners with surf & turf and Hawaiian and Asian flair. A lot of the seafood is actually raised on site in their farm on the pond.
