Mauna Lani Beach

Mauna Lani Beach is the beach in front of the Mauna Lani Auberge Resort. This is not a huge sandy beach, but it’s a picturesque spot and it has a safe swimming area.

Lounge chairs provided by the resort for their guests occupy most of the sandy real estate behind the beach. Luckily the beach is just big enough that you can still find place to lay down towels for sunbathing. Mauna Lani Beach has a walk-up bar with tasty drinks which makes staying at the beach more enjoyable.

The snorkeling here isn’t really worthwhile since it is hard to get beyond the shallow parts of the reef. For snorkeling in Mauna Lani Resort we recommend getting in the water at Makaiwa Bay to the south beyond the fishponds.

To get to Mauna Lani Beach, drive to the public parking lot at Kalahuipua’a Historic Park by following signs to Mauna Lani Drive and “Historic Park”.

From that parking lot you’ll walk the Kalahuipuaa Trail through a lava field and continue to stay right when you get to the ocean (left goes to Mauna Lani Beach Club). On the first part of the trail you’ll pass by lava flows, lava tubes and lava caves including a huge one you can walk into. The second part of the walk to the beach goes by massive fish ponds that are still actively used today. You’ll also go by a grass thatched roof structure just above the ocean waterline. All together this is about a 3/4 mile walk to the beach from your car so donning a backpack with your beach goodies would be best.
