Keei Beach

Ke’ei Beach is a small sandy beach backed by palm trees in a hidden spot south of Kealakekua Bay. It’s a quiet place to go for a walk and excellent for sunsets. This area is a popular with the Captain Cook area locals especially in the evenings and on weekends.

Access to this shoreline is down Ke’ei Road which is an unsigned road branching off toward the ocean from Puuhonua Road south of Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park (see our map). This road leads to several shoreline parking areas in about a half mile. The road continues down a narrow rock wall-lined road to another parking lot and from there the access is only by walking the rest of the way (a sign says “End of Road – Park Behind You”).

You can get right into the water near your parking spot if the waves aren’t too rough. Snorkeling there can be good, but you’ll want to continue farther down the road on foot to the sandy beach. From the parking areas you walk south along the shore on lava rock for about 700 feet to Keei Beach which is visible as you approach.

Ke’ei Beach is on the north side of Palemano Point a mostly pahoehoe (smooth lava) point which is fun to explore all the way to the south side which is on Mokuakae Bay. You’ll find abundant tide pools and other interesting stuff all around this point.

Picnic tables are next to some of the parking areas along the shore. Portable toilets are provided too.
