About Outrigger Kona Resort Shoreline Access on Kona & West Island, Hawaii
This little-known shoreline access is a shaded place on the south shore of Keauhou Bay that’s superb for walking. All along the shore and at the adjacent resort there are interpretive signs explaining the many historic sites and plants that you’ll walk by. This spot is also offers excellent snorkeling even though there is no beach.
The Outrigger Kona Resort is the home of this public access and the grounds there are excellent for walking. Start at the access and see all the historic sights there, then venture around the property. If you brought your snorkel gear look for safe steps where it’s easier to get into the water. This area is where the well-known manta ray night snorkel tours site is located.
During the middle part of the day on Wednesdays there is a community farmers market with fruits, vegetables, arts & crafts, coffee, snacks, and more located on the lawn behind the resort. They even have live music playing during the market sometimes.
To get to this access, turn onto Kaleiopapa Street from Alii Drive and then turn left onto Ehukai Street. Before you drive into the resort you’ll see a white and blue Shoreline Public Access sign – that is the way to walk to the shore. Parking is available along both streets nearby, but just outside, the resort.
