About Kiholo Queens Bath on Kona & West Island, Hawaii

Keanalele Waterhole, better known as Kiholo Queens Bath, is a small freshwater pool inside a lava tube cave at Kiholo State Park Preserve. The Queens Bath a great place to “chill out” especially if you happen to have it all to yourself.

A small ladder helps visitors descend into the cave. The water is definitely cool, but you’ll get used to it pretty quickly after the initial shock. Explore around in the cave after your eyes adjust or carefully use the light on your phone to see the way. Two openings in the lava tube roof allow light to shine into this dark space. Petroglyphs have been carved into the walls where the cave extends inland beyond the pool.

To get to the parking lot for Kiholo Bay, find the first road south of the Kiholo Scenic Overlook near mile marker 82. It is not well signed considering it’s such an amazing state park property. This road is about one mile long and gets rough near the end. Make a note of when the state park will close and lock the gate because after that time you can’t drive out until the next morning. After you get onto the beach near the end of the road, it is about an 800 foot walk north along the shore to the Queens Bath which will be on your right near short trees which provide some shade. Continuing up the beach eventually leads to a small cove filled with sea turtles, the highlight of Kiholo State Park Preserve.
